Verifying a device
Once encryption has been successfully set up, as described here, any additional devices on which fairchat [matrix] is used should be verified. This is required in order to be able to decrypt messages consistently across all devices.
Example: the user is logged in on the desktop at fairchat.eu (an active session exists) and now wishes to also log in on their smartphone.
1) Log in on another device
After logging in, the following dialogue appears. Prerequisite: encryption has already been set up.
To unlock old messages, the recovery key generated during a previous session can be entered.
If an active session exists on another device, the device can be verified via that session. To do so, select Transfer from another device.
Verify the other device in order to exchange device keys. Confirm with OK.
2) Transfer from another device
A window appears with a message indicating that it is waiting for the request to be accepted on the other device.
On the other device, a message appears indicating that a new verification request has been made. Confirm this request on the other device by tapping Accept.
3) Compare emojis
For verification, the emojis must be compared and confirmed with They match on both devices.
4) Done
The other account is successfully verified.
