How do I configure a Space? (Element)

1) Space Settings

After creating the Space, it can be configured further. The Space "Settings" can be accessed either via the three-dot menu next to the Space in the left-hand sidebar or directly within the Space via the gear icon.

2) Visibility

Under the Visibility option, the visibility — i.e. who has access to the Space — can be changed.

The following options are available:

  • Private: Only invited users can enter the Space.
  • Space members: Members can be added to the Space and can view and enter it.
  • Public: The Space is visible and accessible to everyone.

3) Invite to the Space

Members can be invited to the Space using the Invite button.

Users can be invited by display name, e-mail address, or username (e.g. @nickname:fairchat.eu).

4) Managing Space Members

The permissions of Space members can be edited individually. To do so, open the Settings and navigate to Roles and Permissions.

Under Add privileged user, search for the relevant user and assign the appropriate permission level. (The user must have been invited to the Space beforehand.)

The following permission levels are available:

- Default

- Moderator

- Administrator

- Custom permission level

Confirm with Apply.

5) Who can perform which action

Further down under Roles and Permissions, you can select which action can be performed at which permission level.

To change this, select the desired permission level from the dropdown menu for the relevant action.
