How do Threads work?

Threads

Threads allow conversations to be displayed separately from the main timeline. When a message is replied to in a thread, the thread view opens and the conversation can be continued there without being interrupted by other messages in the timeline.

Reply in thread

With Element Client

Element Client supports threads.

To do so, hover over the message you wish to reply to in the thread using the web client, or touch and hold the message in the Element app on your smartphone (a bottom sheet will open), and select Reply in thread. The thread view will open and messages can be exchanged there within the thread.

With FluffyChat Client

FluffyChat Client also supports threads. To use this feature, simply click on a message and hold down the mouse button (or tap and hold on a touchscreen). A bar will open at the top of the screen; select "Reply in thread" from there.

Then reply to the message

Unread messages in thread

With Element Client

New or unread messages in threads are displayed in the Element Client when used in a web browser at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar.

The green dot indicates unread messages in threads:

The thread activity view displays rooms with unread thread messages:

> clicking the threads icon opens the threads view > unread messages are marked with a green dot

In the room, this is shown in the bar at the top:
