Nextcloud Talk is a messaging app with video chat. However, our experience with Talk and the HPB has been very mixed. In 2025, a customer had the opportunity to compare it extensively with fairmeeting and fairteaching in various settings. Talk Video required much more bandwidth and often froze, or the ICE handling (connection establishment) never worked. We’ve made our decision: We will no longer offer Nextcloud Talk Video and have decommissioned the HPB server, which would be required for conferences with three or more participants. Instead, we’ve further developed the fairmeeting Nextcloud app and expanded its integration with the Nextcloud calendar.
So, there’s no Talk on faircloud.eu; instead, we recommend fairchat [matrix], fairmeeting, or fairteaching.
If you have your own faircloud instance, you can activate the Talk app and use it for chatting and one-on-one video conferences. However, we only provide limited support for this.
